Touching up a home before winter can be a simple process, and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that homeowners may be able to make a substantial difference in a home by simply rearranging furniture and accessories, thereby investing in the bare minimum of new pieces.

Kathy Fay recently learned this from firsthand experience when she hired the designing duo Jean Wall and Joan Robinson-Whitaker to change her living room in a single day. She went to the beach for a few hours, and when she came back, she couldn't believe the results.

"What appealed to me was that Jean and Joan use what you have, which worked for me from a functional point," she told the news provider. "I also had things that I really liked."

Wall and Robinson-Whitaker had arranged the living room so more light could shine into the area, maximizing the space so that it felt more open than before. The new accessories that the designers added were in shades of greens and blues, which Fay claimed created a calm oasis.

Those who are looking to change a room without breaking the bank may also want to invest in roman shades. These versatile window treatments can add a vibrant touch to any space in need of a quick makeover.
