Make a private space with vertical blinds

An AARP poll conducted in 2009 found that 11 percent of people age 50 and older live with grandchildren or parents, and 11 percent of 34 to 44-year-olds reported that they were currently living with parents or in-laws. This number may increase as well, as grandparents require more care and families struggle in a tough economy.

There are many social benefits to living in a multi-generational household. Older adults, teenagers and children can benefit from the extra attention and love that they get from other family members, and it also leaves more people to help with babysitting or caretaking duties.

However, AARP.org also reports that this living situation can put a strain on any family and it's important that privacy and alone time is emphasized at some point, so no loved ones become overwhelmed.

If some family members share a bedroom, it might be necessary to set aside a room that can feel intimate, personal and quiet. If these spaces also have sliding glass doors, vertical blinds can be an ideal way to add privacy to them.
