Wood blinds can add to a nautical theme

Although graphic designer Katherine Rasmussen spent much of her young life growing up on the coast, it was not until she spent time with her parents in Port Clyde, Maine, that she realized the appeal of nautical design. The New York Times reports that Rasumssen, who lives in Brooklyn, has since created many fashions out of recycled sailcloth and other materials.

The news source reports that Rasmussen's inspiration stems from the fact that she admires the atmosphere that comes along with the coast. One of her most recent endeavors found her purchasing bags of shells, rocks and coral that she wants to use around the house.

"Being at the beach or on the water is a time of leisure for most people," Rasmussen told the news provider.
