Dressing up one's windows may usually be regarded as a decorative afterthought, but homeowners may want to think twice before ignoring the blinds. Blinds are not only a stylish addition to one's home, they may also help save energy.

According to Central Florida News 13, 40 percent of heat that escapes from homes leaves through the windows. In addition, 50 percent of hot or cold air that enters the home comes in through the windows. Whether homes are trying to keep cold air out in the winter or hold the cool air in during the summer, the solution may be wood blinds.

"Wood slat blinds are thick, and offer a nice barrier for the movement of air and light," reports the news source. "During the hottest or coldest hours of the day, close the blinds for maximum efficiency."

And, with the variety of styles in which wood blinds are available, homeowners can live efficiently and stylishly. Blinds Chalet recently released a line of distressed wood blinds, which offer an antiqued appearance. The window treatments can infuse a room with rustic charm, and pair elegantly with antique wooden furniture and reclaimed hardwood floors.
