Bamboo shades create exotic bedroom

When Mark and Taylor Bliese bought their 100-year-old home in Austin, Texas, they knew that they wanted to remodel the space, and incorporate their modern tastes. From a Thai-styled bedroom to a whimsical child's room, the couple paired the home's classic hardwood flooring with new wall, ceiling and window treatments.

According to the Austin Daily Herald, the Bliese's wanted to preserve the home's original design but add their own style. In their daughter's room, for example, they kept the traditional hardwood flooring and vintage light fixtures, but painted the walls with bright, whimsical hot air balloons.

The couple carried this design philosophy into their own bedroom as well, offsetting the classic floors with a Thai-theme, using several pieces of elephant art and hanging bamboo shades. The shades infuse the room with warmth and add a bit of the exotic.

In addition to creating a well-designed living space, design experts recommend hanging bamboo shades as a fashionable-yet-eco-friendly option. The plant's root system isn't harmed during harvest, making bamboo a sustainable material and a great renewable resource.
