Design an exotic room with pleated shades

The New York Times recently reported that homeowne Harrice Miller teamed up with designer Vincent Wolf to convert an apartment room into an Indian getaway. The aim was create a place that looked nothing like the rest of the residence and would emphasize Miller's love for the country's music.

Wolf wanted to include a vibrant, mystical atmosphere, so he started by painting the walls a hot, pink color. He said that the room would not so much elicit a theme so much as an emotion, since Miller had wanted him to design a room that would recreate a certain feeling.

The carpeting was raspberry-colored and spread from wall-to-wall, while more magenta and pink colors were applied to Miller's chairs. To evoke the image of Indian palaces, which Miller professed to love, Wolf repurposed unused picture frames and painted an archway on the wall behind them, according to the news provider.

Three Moroccan lanterns were also hung from the post on the bed, to make the room glow with the mystique of a faraway land.

Homeowners looking to add exotic flair to their own household should hang pleated shades from windows. Since these window treatments are made from a soft fabric, they are available in many different colors, so, if one is feeling adventurous, they can also apply an unusual palette.
