Conserve energy in the heat with honeycomb cellular shades

Temperatures in the Northeast reached triple digits earlier this week, and as people sought relief from the record setting heat they turned on the air conditioning. According to the Belleville Times, the increase in energy use led to power outages in New Jersey.

The Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) public relations representative Nicole Swan told the news source that many towns were experiencing power outages due to "the high demand for power" because of the heat. Swan added that Essex county was the most affected.

Although it may be uncomfortable, PSEG recommends that homeowners should conserve energy whenever possible. They say that setting the air conditioning at no lower than 78 can save energy along with not using heat producing appliances, like washers and dryers, until cooler parts of the day.

Another easy way to use the least amount of energy possible is to keep window shades closed to keep the sun's rays out. Honeycomb cellular shades are especially effective at keeping light at bay. They also offer added benefits including room darkening and noise blocking capability to provide a restful and relaxing atmosphere.
