Garage conversions provide additional living space for families

When one of her clients decided to convert their garage into a media room, home designer Debra Kinner's first move was to replace the garage's overhead doors with carriage-style doors to let in as much natural light as possible.
More homeowners are converting their garages into additional living space.
But with several window panes in each door, the designer told This Old House magazine that privacy was also a consideration so window coverings were needed.
Homeowners faced with a similar garage conversion should look to the wide range of window treatments offered by Blinds Chalet to maintain privacy while managing light and providing an attractive door or window covering for the new room.
Simple roller shades now come in many colors, materials and finishes to offset any style of home décor. They are easy for youngsters to use, and with ongoing sales and discount coupons available from Blinds Chalet, they are an affordable choice.
According to the magazine, converting a garage into a family room takes the same planning as any renovation. Looking ahead to future use, Kinner told the magazine she included a removable wall in case the garage is needed again and that also provides a narrow space for storage.
