Integration of textures in window coverings embodies the rustic modern look

Mixing different textures in home design is an important part of the rustic modern look.
Rustic modern may seem like a contradiction in terms, but when it comes to home design, it embodies ways to integrate old and new furnishings.
According to The Oregonian, the best way to capture this style is to mix textures to celebrate the spirit of both rustic and contemporary looks.
"Smooth concrete floors can look quite chic when played against rough stone walls," the newspaper states. "Shiny stainless steel is quite striking when played against distressed, timeworn wood."
Window treatments can achieve the same coordination between light and breezy
curtains against
wood blinds, nubby textures in
fabric roller shades or sleek soft
sheer shades. All are available in a wide range of colors and finishes through Blinds Chalet, which offers frequent sales and coupons to make window decorating affordable.
A variety of furniture in style, color and scale can be combined in rustic modern décor as long as they share some of the same elements. For instance, two different furniture styles can be used to their best advantage when they share a color.
But home decorators to be careful of overkill. "With so much contrast going on, it's best to keep objects down to a minimum. This is not the cozy cluttered cottage look," the newspaper warns.
