As of 2007, the population in Gilbert was just over 207,000 residents and it covers an area of about 76 square miles. When Gilbert was first established it was known mainly as a farming community and that can still be seen each year when the town celebrates Gilbert Days with various events such as a rodeo and parade. Gilbert was ranked number 28 out of 100 as one of the best places to live in America and it was also ranked as one of the safest cities in America. It has a great variety of shopping in the fairly new San Tan Village shopping center along with many other things like bowling or ice skating or golfing.
